Nafpaktos is one of the most beautiful cities in Etoloakarnania with great historical importance, reflected in its two great monuments: the verdant Venetian castle and the Venetian port. Its castle is one of the best-preserved forts with a wonderful view of the whole city as well as the port and the Gulf of Corinth with the impressive bridge of Rio-Antirrio dominating the horizon. The picturesque chapel of Prophet Elias, the clock, and the ruins of the Ottoman baths are definitely will attract your attention. The central port is also a trademark. In its eastern turret are the old naval lighthouse and the Fethiye Mosque. A built-in marble there reminds us the well-known naval battle of Nafpaktos at 1571. On the west arm, next to the iron cannons pointing at the sea, is the statue of the legendary arsonist Georgios Anemogiannis as well as the statue of the famous Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes. Between the special attractions is the old mansion of the Botsari family, which has been converted into a private museum. Of course, the visitor can relax and enjoy his coffee, food or drink around the port or at one of the two beaches on either side of the port, Psani and Gribovo, with clear blue waters in the shade of their distinctive tall plane trees.
